Pitching Staff Thoughts…

Signing Kyle Lohse. -  The right thing to do.  I think mosy will agree taht he was a bit lucky in the first half posting a 9-2 record and he came back to ground and showed his true presence.  But, I think he’s a quality guy, right for this coaching staff and will continue to be an assest much like Jeff Suppan’s tenure here.

Sign Russ Springer? -  I think you have to.  He was the most consistant bullpen guy who knows his role.  Vastly experienced, no ego to talk of, and at 39 he’s now offically a wiley veteran.

Jake Peavy rumors – At one time Kevin Towers said he would like a Centerfielder and young pitching prospects for Jake Peavy, but now he’s backed off that request.  The Cardinals are on his short list of approved locations (Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, and St. Louis) but making the deal is another. I would image the Cards would give up Rasmus, Motte and something else.  Adam Kennedy?

The kids in the bullpen -  I really liked the work of McClellan even during the mid to late season swoon.  He was driven, made no excuses and worked hard regardless of what role was THAT game.  Motte looked well as well.  Chris Perez was able to settle down when he returned from Memphis after the “He needs to learn another pitch-gate” incident.  Perhaps he just needed to NOT know he as the offical closer, to be the closer.
