Happy Birthday Lou Brock!!

Yes, on this date, June 18, 1939 Louis Clark Brock was born in El Dorado, Arkansas….and the world was changed.

Well, that might be a bit of a stretch in terms of changing the world, but at the least Lou Brock is responsible for a kid growing up in Northeast Ohio becoming a Cardinals fan even when he had no affiliation with the St. Louis area.

Lou made his MLB debut on September 10, 1961 for the Chicago Cubs.

Lou was traded on June 15, 1964 in what many people call “The Worst Trade Ever”  The Chicago Cubs traded Lou Brock, Jack Spring, and Paul Toth to the St. Louis Cardinals for Ernie Broglio, Doug Clemens and Bobby Shantz.  As we know Lou Brock went on to have a Hall of Fame Baseball career over the next fifteen years and Ernie Broglio went on to win 7 games over the next 2.5 years.

His final game was was September 30, 1979.  In his final season at the age of 40 he was still able to steal 23 bags and hit .304 in 120 games.

Lou was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1985.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LOU!
